Treat Your Pet to a
Fashion Look
With Grooming ARL Style
Watching Gwen
Engler gently clip the matted, overgrown hair around one of her
canine client’s ears and then watching the dog’s relaxed reaction
tells the whole story of Gwen’s successful, new service as the
Animal Rescue League’s pet groomer.
ARL’s Pet
Grooming Shop officially opened for business last May 1. Gwen’s
happy and so are her four-legged clients.
The grooming
shop in the shelter quarters is open for business Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Grooming services include
a bath, nail clipping, and ear cleaning. All breeds are accepted,
but animals must be up to date on their vaccinations, according to
Gwen.
Gwen, who had
been kennel manager and also did some grooming services, decided she
wanted to do grooming full-time. She said she also had helped her
sister, Sheila Keiper, with Sheila’s dog grooming business, Tail
Waggers Salon in Fleetwood.
“Most grooming
can be done in 2 to 3 hours,” Gwen said. “And that includes bathing,
drying, clipping, and ear cleaning.” She said her prices range from
$20 to $65 depending on the breed/size dog and the services
requested.
“To praise her
pet customers for their good behavior, Gwen finished up each
grooming session by attaching a pretty bow on the female pets and a
snappy-looking bandana on the males.
Unique
services also include clipping bunny nails, guinea pig nails, and
cat nails.
