WHY ADOPTING A PET IS A FULL TIME AND LIFETIME RESPONSIBILITY
If you're like many of us, we can easily fall in love with a precious pet. Pets provide companionship, unconditional love and joy! They help to relieve stress in our hectic lives.

Adopting a pet is big decision. Dogs and cats and other pets require lots of time, money, and commitment. This can last at least 15 years or longer in some cases. Having a pet can be an extremely rewarding experience but only if you take into consideration everything involved with this huge decision.

Considerations BEFORE Adopting a new best friend :

WHY DO YOU WANT A PET?

Is it because your children are pining for a pet or is it the thing to do at that time? Think carefully why you want a pet. These pets need permanent, loving homes, not temporary housing.

WILL YOU BE ABLE TO SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR PET?

Pets depend on people for affection and attention. Younger puppies and kittens require time for housebreaking, training and feeding. Pets can't be ignored just because you're tired or busy. They require food, water, exercise, care and companionship every day!! Many animals are in the shelter because they don't receive these necessities.

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE COSTS INVOLVED WITH HAVING A PET?

Costs involved with having a pet can be expensive. Consider the following: food, veterinary care, licenses, possible grooming, toys, spaying and neutering, kitty litter, vaccinations, emergency medical treatment, boarding, and other expenses.

ARE YOU PREPARED TO DEAL WITH UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS WITH A PET?

Unexpected medical emergencies, chronic health problems, accidents in the house and chewed up items in the house , etc. - can you deal with this?

ARE YOUR LIVING ARRANGEMENTS and LIFESTYLE SUITABLE FOR YOUR PET?

RESEARCH the BREED of animal before you adopt!
If you have a small place , you don't want to adopt a larger dog such as  a Mastiff or Rottweiller. In the same respect, if you  are looking for a calm dog, you don't want a Jack Russell Terrier - a very energetic dog who requires alot of attention and exercise.
You want to pick an animal that will suit your personality and lifestyle.
Ask the staff at the Animal Rescue League about an animal you are interested in adopting. They can provide some important information about the animals.

WILL YOU BE A RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PET?

Will you have your pet spayed or neutered - this is the ONLY way to reduce the number of UNWANTED animals!!!! Will you keep ID tags on your pet. Will you provide the basics of food, water and shelter plus the much needed love and affection reuqired? Will you take your pet to a veterinarian on a regular basis?
Will you take care of this pet for his or her entire lifetime- can you make that commitment????????

Don't forget that many older animals make wonderful companions!!!

PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU ADOPT!! Having a pet can be so rewarding BUT only if you make that lifetime commitment of time ,money, responsibility and love!!!
