With more than 20 years’ experience in animal welfare, Pagoulatos was the Executive Director of the Routt County Humane Society in Steamboat Springs, Colo. for the past three years. While under her leadership, the organization embarked upon a $16 million capital campaign to build a new shelter; revitalized community partnerships; began progressive resource-sharing programs; and managed dramatic cost efficiencies while expanding access to community programs to help animals and the community. As an animal advocate, Pagoulatos volunteered and served on the Board of Directors for MEOW, Inc. in Eatontown N.J., where she spearheaded fundraising and foster programs, shaped legislation and assisted with community-wide TNR (trap-neuter-return) efforts.
Prior to her career in animal welfare, Pagoulatos was a public relations executive for more than 15 years, focusing her efforts primarily in the healthcare industry by creating international advocacy campaigns for the fourth largest communications conglomerate worldwide.
“Alexis’ experience and leadership impressed our board immediately,” said Shelly Nowotarski, ARL’s board president. “Her dedication to animal welfare and creating tangible results for the betterment of animals and her community are exactly the qualities we were looking for in a candidate. We believe she will build upon the foundation that was recently laid with our no-kill initiative, and her experience will help lead us to the next phase of our development as a progressive shelter.”
A native of New Jersey, Pagoulatos is excited to move back to her roots on the east coast, and to help shape a better community for pets and their owners in Berks County. “I am thrilled to be joining such a talented team of professionals who are deeply passionate about the welfare of all animals in need in Berks County. The ARL is on the cusp of yet another exciting evolutionary phase, and I am honored to have been chosen to bring my communications, animal welfare and community partnership experience to help lead the organization.”
Pagoulatos’ three cats, Honey, Mia and Ally, as well as her husband, Marwan Kramti, will be joining her when she settles in Berks in the upcoming days.
